Anita Likmeta: The project of the Port of Durrës, a big problem for the port of Trieste and Europe

 Anita Likmeta, the Albanian who is engaged in politics in Italy with the Più Europa force, has commented on the project of the Port of Durrës that will be developed by the Albanian state together with the United Emirates.

In an interview for "Panorama TV", Likmeta sees this project as a "washing machine" for cleaning dirty money in the country.

She even warns citizens who buy properties in this project to withdraw as it resembles a pyramid scheme like those of the 90s in Albania.

Question: I want to ask you about the Port of Durrës, which will start to take "life" from an Arab investor.

Likmeta: For me, the fact of the Port of Durrës is a little clear. There should have been a public competition and I don't understand why it was the United Emirates that took over this project. It doesn't seem clear as a situation. It will be investigated. There is no such thing. It is not possible for a country like the United Emirates to have such great strength in a country like Albania. The Port of Durrës, with one owner who has 77%, is such a big surprise. Who can do such a thing? How can it be the Albanian state that has 33% and the new owner 77%? This is scary, especially for European countries. It will open a big obstacle to the port of Trieste. I do not believe that Italy will remain silent in this case.

Question: What if this project will be used for money laundering?

Likmeta: It looks like a "washing machine" to me. I don't think that the Port of Durrës will develop in this way. Especially a country like Italy will have a big problem for the port of Trieste in the Adriatic. It is not normal for a country, an emir to have its own port in Europe. This cannot be taken into account for Europe. I hope that those who have bought the properties there think very carefully because it looks like the pyramid system we lived in in 95 and 96 in Albania.

What is the Durrës Port project?

On August 10, 2022, in the presence of Prime Minister Edi Rama and Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, the Memorandum of Understanding for the development of the tourist marina of Durrës was signed between Mr. Mohamed Alabbar, Administrator and representative of "Eagle Hills Real Estate Development". and Mr. Erlis Hereni, Administrator and representative of the "Albanian Seaports Development Company", a joint-stock company owned by the Durrës Port Authority created to ensure the successful development of the project.

The project envisages that the port of Durrës will be 2 times larger than that of Tivar in Montenegro.

The moored yachts will be between 15 and 200 meters long.

1,264,552 m2 is the space dedicated to 12,000 housing units for 46,000 residences.

Over 47,000 m2 are planned for services, including over 170 shops, while another 47,000 m2 are for hotel construction.

The green zone will have 80,000 trees.

In the center of the port, a multi-story hotel, similar to the skyscrapers of Dubai, is planned to be built.
