"Greece is taking Albania's waiters and barmans as well. On the eve of the summer season, Albania needs over 25,000 employees and the figure is at risk of expanding.
"Greece is seeking employees, has issued a rule that pays waiters 1000 euros, pays insurance during work, and provides temporary residence permits. And this happens only with an employment contract and is attractive to leave Albania," says Sinkron Rrahman Kasa from the Albanian Tourist Union.
Unable to retain employees despite the increase in wages, Albanian entrepreneurs in the tourism industry are turning their attention to Asia. "Only in the last 2 weeks, the 5 largest hotels in the country have hired between 40 and 70 employees from Asia, mainly from countries that do not have immigration problems," Kasa said.
Representatives from the sector are calling for government intervention to avoid risking the summer season being threatened by a lack of employees."
