The first auction of the Albanian energy exchange is held

The Albanian Energy Exchange ALPEX officially started electricity trading today, becoming the second operational exchange in the region. In a special ceremony, the first auction was held in the day-advance market in Albania, while in the fall it is expected that Kosovo will also organize the first auction and the union of the two markets will be realized. The average selling price of energy for the next 24 hours was 130.98 euros/MWH, while the volumes sold are 7146.2 MWH, local media reports.

This is only the first step, now we officially have an energy exchange, the second in the region, which belongs to the Republic of Albania and Kosovo. Now a new step begins, a new challenge for the creation of liquidity that this stock exchange should have. The Albanian government prioritizes the protection of the consumer from the staggering prices of the market", stressed the Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.

According to her, private energy producers will have the opportunity to compete with each other, benefiting from the stock market, but also giving the opportunity to the domestic industry and the international market to get electricity at the most competitive and lowest prices.
