The Albanian Government dissolves the Academy of Albanian Studies
 Evis Kushi
The Albanian government has decided to merge the Academy of Albanian Studies.

The Ministry of Education, Evis Kushi, made the decision public at the end of the government meeting and stated that the decision came after a series of violations that were found in the operation of this institution.

In a communication with journalists after the government meeting, Kushi was asked if steps will be taken to bring these violations to the prosecutor's office.

The minister said that they do not intend to bring the offenders to justice, but to organize Albanology and the latter to be raised to the level it belongs to.

"The Academy of Albanological Studies has never had a faculty, which is the first legal obligation. There is no teaching in any of its units, which makes it impossible to continue functioning as a higher education institution. ASA is unaccredited both institutionally and in terms of study programs. Even when the government got an English company to accredit them all, ASA was the only one that was not accredited. Non-accreditation makes it impossible to issue diplomas. According to the law, a higher education institution can issue degrees only if it is accredited. For 8 years, ASA has not enrolled any student in any study program. According to the law, this makes all programs passive", said Kushi.

Consequences of closing the Academy of Albanological Studies

If the Academy of Albanological Studies is closing down, there are several potential consequences that could affect the study and promotion of the Albanian language, culture, and history. Here are some of them:

Loss of the main institution: The closure of the Academy of Albanological Studies will result in the loss of the main institution that engages in the study, research, and promotion of various fields related to Albanian culture, history, and language.

Minimization of scientific research: The Academy of Albanological Studies has played an important role in translating major literary and scientific works into the Albanian language, as well as in conducting scientific research in various fields related to the study of Albanian culture and history. The closure of the academy may lead to the minimization of such research and reduce knowledge and the promotion of Albanian culture.

Loss of financial and institutional support: The closure of the Academy of Albanological Studies may result in the loss of financial and institutional support that this institution receives to develop various projects, conferences, publications, and other activities related to the study of the Albanian language and culture.

Reduction in acquired knowledge: Due to the closure of the academy, there may be a reduction in acquired knowledge and its dissemination to the general public. For example, if there is no institution dedicated to translating major works into the Albanian language, there may be a loss of this activity and the opportunity to translate and study important works of world literature in the Albanian language.

Dissemination of knowledge to other institutions: Due to the closure of the Academy of Albanological Studies, there may be a dissemination of knowledge and expertise to other institutions, such as universities, research institutions, non-governmental organizations, etc. This process can be challenging and result in the fragmentation of knowledge and expertise.
