Albin Kurti speaking at the Bratislava Forum |
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, present at the Bratislava Forum, said that the situation in the North is not a result of citizens' protests but of individuals armed with symbols of Russia.
Kurti said it would be very understandable if Serbian residents of the northern municipalities peacefully protested to demand a repeat of the elections. However, he added that the government of Kosovo will never surrender the democratic republic to fascists who assault the police and call for "kill, kill."
"Our police are doing a professional job, assisted by our allies. They have a Western vocation, they know human rights very well, and there are no violations. In these municipalities, I have given orders for the vice mayors to be Serbs, meaning the Albanian mayor elects his vice mayors. What is happening in the North is that their concept of the Serbian world is being reflected in our country. I have a question for you, which is not rhetorical: If these municipal residents don't go to the offices, who should go to these empty offices? These are not protests, but crowds with the letter Z calling for 'ubi ubi,' meaning 'kill, kill.' We will not surrender our republic to these fascists. If the residents of these municipalities were to peacefully protest to demand a repeat of the elections in the North, they would have my support," said Kurti.
