Four police officers from Spain and Albania will assist the Italian State Police during public order services at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto and Umbria Jazz in Perugia.
This is the first time that joint patrol services are being conducted in the regional territory as part of international cooperation between police forces, ANSA reports.
The project, operational until July 17th, was presented at the police headquarters by spokesperson Roberto Conti, in the presence of two officers from the Spanish National Police, hailing from Malaga and specializing in anti-robbery, and two officers from Albania, coming from Tirana and deployed in public order and safety services.
"It is a matter of great pride for us that they are in Perugia for the first time," emphasized Conti.
The project, already active in major tourist cities in Italy, aims to "provide native-speaking police officers to the citizens." It is also an opportunity for professional growth for the involved officers, as they can exchange experiences and working methods. "The initial impact with Perugia and Spoleto has been incredible and very positive," said the officers from Malaga and Tirana. "They treated us like brothers; you feel at home," they added.
Regarding the project, which was strongly supported by Questore Giuseppe Bellassai, there is hope "for a collaboration that can grow and continue in the coming years."
The police officers, who arrived in Perugia a few hours ago, will assist their Italian colleagues in the services in Spoleto from today.
