A sailing vessel was found abandoned on Wednesday morning about 51 miles off the coast of Sicily. The sailing vessel was discovered by the fishing vessel Rozafa, which notified the Italian authorities.

The police announced that no illegal items were found after inspecting the sailing vessel.

According to maritime conventions, the sailing vessel was handed over to the captain of the Rozafa, who transported it to the port of Saranda where it was impounded.

In accordance with maritime laws, the vessel will remain in the port for 20 days, and if the owner does not claim it, it will be claimed by those who found it.

"Today, around 09:00, the fishing vessel 'Rozafa 23' and a sailing vessel arrived at the port of Limjoni, Saranda.

The sailing vessel, with the inscription 'Bavaria 50', was found on 10.06.2023, about 51 miles off the coast of Sicily, Italy, by the fishing vessel Rozafa, whose crew was fishing in that maritime area.

The captain of the fishing vessel immediately informed the Sicilian Coast Guard and the Delta Force of the Italian Police, who conducted a physical inspection and found no illegal items. They also performed other appropriate verifications. Based on international maritime law, they handed over the sailing vessel to the captain of the Rozafa.

Currently, the sailing vessel is seized and blocked in the port, awaiting verification by the Saranda Port Authority in collaboration with the Saranda Police Commissioner's Office and the Saranda Border Police," the police report.
