The sudden death of a 16-year-old girl has saddened Thessaloniki. The girl was on vacation with her friends in Halkidiki when the tragedy occurred, Greek media say.

According to her mother, the young girl had gone out to have fun with her friends on Tuesday evening, and on Wednesday morning, they sat down to eat at a fast-food restaurant.

"My daughter had a hot-dog. She was allergic to milk and always took care when eating outside. I don't know what happened, whether there was contamination in what she consumed or not, but she collapsed right after eating it," said the mother of the 16-year-old to the Greek media.

One of her friends who was with her immediately ran to the hospital room where they were staying to bring the girl's medication. At the same time, they called the ambulance, but as the mother of the young girl complains, it arrived too late, 45 minutes later.

"From initial evidence, it appears that my daughter suffered a severe allergic reaction and lost her life. She was the best child and died at only 16 without help. The Health Center tried twice to revive her, but they couldn't make it," said her mother, adding, "My daughter was an angel, and she is lost. I don't know why the ambulance was delayed; there was no traffic to delay it."

According to Greek media reports, the 16-year-old had been receiving medical treatment in recent years due to suffering from epileptic seizures.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of her death, and the funeral of the unfortunate girl will take place today in Oreokastro.
