Within a span of 15 days, three accidents resulting in the loss of lives of three Albanians have been recorded in workplace accidents. On June 22nd in Kavala, Afrim (Kristo) Cepa, a 58-year-old, lost his life while operating a small excavator. On June 30th, a 38-year-old father of two children was working on a scaffold when it collapsed, causing him serious injuries. He was taken to Chania Hospital. On July 1st, another 57-year-old lost their life in Thessaloniki. Today, in Thessaloniki, another 52-year-old lost their life after falling from a garbage truck, and their identity is still unknown, local media reports.
Regarding today's death, there has been a reaction from the Federation of Technical Enterprises Workers' Associations of Greece.
"One negative record after another is being broken in workplace accidents. There have been 85 deceased workers in the first half of 2023, while the year 2022 was considered a year of explosion and multiplication of workplace accidents with the recording of 104 deceased workers. The findings of the investigation are shocking for the first half of 2023, as already 85 people have been killed at work," says the statement from the Federation of Technical Enterprises Workers' Associations of Greece (ΟΣΕΤΕΕ).

In particular, while the year 2022 was considered a year of explosion and multiplication of workplace accidents with the recording of 104 deceased workers, the findings of the investigation for the first half of 2023 are shocking, as already 85 people have lost their lives at work, indicating a new escalation.
In 2018, according to ELSTAT, 46 people lost their lives at work, in 2021, 31 (SEPE), while in 2022, 104 workers were killed (OSETEE). The year 2023 is a troubling year, as we have already reached 85 deceased workers in the first semester (OSETEE), heading towards a significantly higher number of victims compared to previous years.".
