 Over a ton of cannabis, suspected to be linked to an Albanian organized crime syndicate, has been seized in the western suburbs of Melbourne.

Reports from the media indicate that a man and a woman were arrested after officers conducted searches of five residences on Tuesday, Euronews reports.

A 47-year-old Albanian man identified as Dritan Ndreu, whom the police allege was the leader of the organization, was arrested along with a 44-year-old Colombian woman.

The total value of the drugs is estimated at 5 million dollars, and the police also confiscated a sum of 200,000 dollars and 260 cultivated plants.

The 47-year-old Albanian suspect appeared in the Magistrates' Court of Melbourne and is charged with cultivating and trafficking significant quantities of cannabis, as well as possessing proceeds of crime. Meanwhile, the arrested Colombian woman was released on bail.
