The arrest of Fredi Beleri, the elected mayor of Himara, was characterized by the Greek daily Kathimerini as a decision made by Rama's government rather than a result of justice.

The imprisonment of Fredi Beleri could have significant implications for Albania's integration into the European Union and may mark a crucial moment in Greek-Albanian relations.

This is the message that Athens aims to convey not only to Tirana but also to the international community. The next step in this matter involves the Greek foreign minister, Giorgos Gerapetritis, sending a letter to his EU counterparts to explain why Fredi Beleri's arrest violates the law.

Pavlos Marinakis, the spokesman for the Greek government, emphasized that the "Beleri" issue is of high priority for Greece. He stated that Albania must adhere to the fundamental principles of the rule of law, and Greece will continue to prioritize this matter to protect the rights of the minority and the legally elected mayor.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis also addressed this issue at the recent European Union Summit in Brussels, discussing the situation with his counterparts. Additionally, the Greek Foreign Minister raised the matter with Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varkheli and David McAllister, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the European Parliament.
