President Bajram Begaj has declined to attend the informal dinner scheduled for August 21 in Athens.

Responding to Euronews Albania's inquiry, the presidential office stated that Albania's absence from the dinner is due to scheduling conflicts.

"In response to your inquiry, we would like to inform you that on August 14, 2023, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis extended an invitation to the President of the Republic, H.E. Bajram Begaj, to participate in an informal dinner on August 21, 2023, in Athens.

On August 15, 2023, President Begaj sent a reply expressing appreciation for Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis's attention to European security developments, but also expressed regret for being unable to attend due to a pre-defined agenda," the presidential office communicated to Euronews Albania.

Recent reports from Greek media indicate that Albania will not be part of the Balkan Leaders meeting in Athens.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Montenegrin Jakov Milatovic, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, North Macedonian Dimitar Kovacevski, and the President of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Kristo, are expected to be in attendance.

"Although Albania was invited at the presidential level, it will not be represented, and the leader of Slovenia was unable to confirm participation," the media reported.
