The Kosovo Police announced that in the early hours of September 22nd, a hand grenade was thrown into the yard of a Serbian individual in the village of Ranilluk. In the 24-hour police report published on September 23rd, it was stated that as a result of the explosion, material damage was caused to the victim's house. The police said there were no injuries, but the case is under investigation. Ranilluk is located near the city of Gjilan, local media say.

A hand grenade attack was also reported on September 21st in North Mitrovica. Kosovo's Minister of Interior, Xhelal Sveçla, stated that the attack in the north was a sign of unrest following the arrest of three Serbs suspected of war crimes. The three Serbs were arrested on September 20th in the north. The Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia and the Serbian List – the main political party of Serbs in Kosovo – have described the arrests as "politically motivated."

Regarding the grenade attacks, U.S. Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, also responded on September 22nd. "Deeply troubled by reports of explosive device use in parts of Kosovo. We condemn these acts of violence and call on authorities to conduct thorough investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice," Hovenier said on the social media platform Twitter.

The European Union also reacted to the situation in the north, stating that it is closely monitoring the situation. Tensions in the north have been high since May when residents of majority-Serb northern municipalities refused to accept newly-elected Albanian mayors, despite boycotting the electoral process. The situation has at times escalated into violence.
