AEK Athens and Ajax played to a 1-1 draw in Greece for the second round of the Europa League groups. In the "Nea Philahelphia" stadium, AEK fans displayed a banner with the inscription "Kosovo is Albania." This message has upset Serbia, which considers it a betrayal by the "Greek brothers."
"Kurir.rs" reports that AEK fans surprised everyone with their banner, which has shaken Serbia. The headline reads, "Betrayal! Greek fans stab Serbs in the heart: Brothers, we didn't expect this from you! The slogan that shook Serbia."
On the other hand, the official AEK has condemned the action of the fans in the match against Ajax where a slogan was displayed.
The Greek team has announced that measures will be taken against the responsible fans by permanently excluding them from the stadium.
"AEK unequivocally condemns the appearance, even for a few seconds, of a banner with extreme nationalistic content in our stadium, which has absolutely nothing to do with the historical origin of our association, nor certainly with what it represents since its foundation. AEK does not need to prove anything with words, as it has done it with deeds in indisputable ways and with initiatives that no other group has taken, against the war. Regarding the specific sad and infuriating event, AEK declares that it will not stay like this. We are already starting the actions for assigning responsibilities even for a momentary image - we repeat - that rightly disturbed the great mass of our sports-loving world, which has also strongly opposed it. We will definitely find those responsible and they will be banned from entering our stadium forever", the club's statement says.
