After receiving 123 votes in favor at the United Nations General Assembly, our country has been elected as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2024-2026 term. The news was made public by the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani.

"Another significant achievement of foreign policy and diplomacy; another demonstration of the trust of UN member states in Albania's role in international affairs. This time, fully committed to protecting and promoting human rights everywhere and for everyone," Minister Hasani wrote on social media.

Albania's primary objective as a member of the Human Rights Council will be to work within the Council and the United Nations system to ensure the universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all individuals without discrimination. Our country will closely collaborate with other UN member states, civil society representatives, and all partners to implement these commitments.

The Council, responsible for protecting and advancing human rights on a global scale, consists of 47 member states elected by secret ballot by a majority of the General Assembly members.
