The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution (Known as SPAK in Albanian acronyms) has issued an official notification regarding the allegations weighing on former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, his son-in-law Jamarbër Malltezi, and the developer Fatmir Bektashi, Euronews reports.
According to the Special Prosecution, all monetary benefits received by Jamarbër Malltezi in his capacity as an investor from the company Homeplan shpk, without investing in the latter, and which he received before declaring himself a shareholder and further, after 2018, amount to 673 million lekë, or 5.4 million euros.
Meanwhile, it appears that former Prime Minister Sali Berisha had an active role in promoting the privatization of the former Partizani sports complex in violation of the law, to the benefit of his son-in-law Jamarbër Malltezi.
SPAK writes in the notification that from the investigations, a reasonable suspicion has been established, supported by evidence that Sali Berisha has committed the criminal acts of "Passive corruption of high state officials or elected local officials," in collaboration with his son-in-law Jamarbër Malltezi.
In addition, SPAK accuses Sali Berisha of using the administration under his control as Prime Minister to facilitate the enrichment of his son-in-law Jamarbër Malltezi.
"Sali Berisha, in his capacity as Prime Minister, has taken active steps to make available various structures of the state administration for the realization of the privatization process of state property," SPAK announces.
SPAK also details the irregular profit, which occurred in three phases, from privatization to investment and gain.
