Albawings plane in the air (archive) |
An aircraft operated by Albawings and departing from Tirana has encountered engine trouble, forcing it to make an emergency landing at Bari airport in Italy.
According to Italian media reports, Albawings AWT 229, flying from Tirana to Bologna, was compelled to land in Bari after experiencing engine failure while cruising at an altitude of 11,000 meters over the Gargano area in the Adriatic Sea, local media report.
Fortunately, the plane was able to safely touch down on the runway at Bari airport.
The incident occurred in the late morning hours of November 3, at 13:12, one hour after taking off from Tirana. The Albanian airline's Boeing 737, which has been in operation for over 30 years, landed in Bari with only one engine running.
The emergency maneuvers at Bari airport caused delays for other departing and arriving flights. Thankfully, there were no injuries or damage to airport facilities or vehicles.
The deviation from the flight path occurred precisely in the area of Vieste, a picturesque coastal town in Italy. It remains an extraordinary feat of skill and training that the Albawings pilot was able to navigate the emergency situation and successfully land the aircraft with just one functioning engine.
