New details have been learned from the operation conducted by SPAK last night, November 20, during which 6 individuals were arrested, while 5 others were declared wanted, Euronews report.
Bujar Germizi and Besmir Mustafi collaborated with the chief of crimes at police station number 6, Dedan Gjoni, attempting to murder two brothers residing in the United Kingdom.
Meanwhile, Jonida Babameto, an officer of the Border and Immigration Directorate, who was also arrested in the context of this operation, is reported to have provided information from the system to Interpol about the two brothers living in Britain during her time working there. It is suspected that the plan to murder the two brothers was made after conflicts related to drug trafficking.
What happened on November 20 in Tirana:
SPAK issued 11 arrest warrants on November 20, 2023, to strike a structured criminal group.
As part of the operation, the former deputy director of the Tirana Police, Erzen Breçani, and his son Eralbi Breçani were arrested. Father and son are accused of supporting the perpetrator of the crime and money laundering.
Also arrested was the Chief of Crimes at Police Station number 6, Dedan Gjoni. Several serious criminal charges have been filed against the chief of crimes, including ensuring conditions for committing murder. One of the police officers accompanied is Jonida Babameto, an officer of the Border and Immigration Directorate.
Arrest warrants have also been issued for 6 other current and former police employees.
Being sought in the context of this operation, which seems to be the second phase of the "Metamorphosis" operation, is businessman Ervin Mata, a well-known name in the justice system, after the clash he had with the boss of the gambling games, Ervis Martinaj, in a former Block venue in 2018. It is learned that Breçani has family ties to Mata. Breçani's son is married to Ervin Mata's sister.
The 11 suspects for whom arrest warrants have been issued, following the decryption of messages from the encoded application "SKY ECC," face charges of money laundering, organized criminal group, drug trafficking, ensuring conditions for committing murder, abuse of duty, and supporting the perpetrator of the crime.
The operation is still ongoing, and an official announcement is expected to provide more details.
