Cocaine seized from the Albanian in Montenegro, source: Montenegrin Police |
According to the Montenegrin police, "at the customs point between Montenegro and Croatia, in Debeli Breg, on Thursday morning, a 34-year-old Albanian citizen, A.H., was arrested while driving a car with French plates, in which 18 packages of white powder, suspected to be cocaine, were found. Each package contained one kilogram of drugs."
The Montenegrin Police Directorate announced that "the packages suspected of being cocaine were hidden in a special place under the car's seat."
"At the order of the state prosecutor, the suspect has been deprived of his liberty on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of unauthorized production, possession, and distribution of narcotics," says the Montenegrin police statement.
Considering that Montenegro and Albania are part of the Balkan route, which leads directly to the EU, drug trafficking poses a significant problem for these countries.
The figures on drug seizures indicate the main trafficking routes and the role of organized crime groups.
Border areas between Montenegro and Albania, such as the Adriatic Sea, the Buna River, Lake Shkodra, the area of Malësia, and Vermosh, are considered the most suitable territories for the trafficking of narcotics towards Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, heading to Europe.
