In the last three years, approximately 8% of veterinarians have emigrated from the country for employment abroad. In total, there are 1,220 veterinarians in the country.

The President of the Professional Order of Veterinarians, Ervin Resuli, stated in a meeting with journalists that the vast majority of veterinarians are emigrating to countries such as England, Germany, and Switzerland due to the ease of diploma recognition, Monitor reports.

In the last 3 years, an average of 25 to 30 veterinarians per year have left to work outside the veterinary service.

"There are numerous requests for providing references for the employment of veterinarians towards European Union countries. Among the countries where the demand for employment is highest are England, Germany, and Switzerland since the recognition of the diploma is not necessary, and Albanian diplomas are acknowledged."

Resuli recommended that, in order to reduce the number of emigrants, Albanian institutions should intervene with stimulating measures to increase salaries and improve conditions for the protection of this professional category during the practice of the profession. According to him, the salary of veterinarians in state institutions varies from 60,000 to 78,000 lek per month.

Despite the decrease in the number of livestock heads, according to Resuli, the country's need for veterinarians should not exceed a number of 2,000. Therefore, increasing quotas for graduates in this profession is not seen as a deterrent measure against the emigration of this professional category.

Within the Professional Order of Veterinarians, 800 veterinarians are registered out of a total of 1,220, including those employed in state institutions.
