Rama-Meloni Pas nënshkrimit të Marrëveshjes për Emigrantët |
The Italian government has granted approval to the agreement between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her Albanian counterpart Edi Rama concerning the relocation of migrants to Shengjin. The accord, inked in Rome on November 6, 2023, received the green light from the Council of Ministers, as reported by international media.
The announcement of this development comes a month after the signing of the pact at Palazzo Chigi by Giorgia Meloni and Edi Rama. Now, the next step involves parliamentary deliberation to determine whether the agreement will be ratified.
Outlined in the protocol presented by both leaders, Meloni and Rama, is the establishment of facilities in Albania to accommodate migrants who have arrived on Italian shores. The proposed legislation outlines the financial provisions and initial implementation guidelines for the plan.
The designated areas in Tirana, entrusted to Rome, will fall exclusively under Italian jurisdiction. This implies that Italy will shoulder the full responsibility, necessitating the creation of a guarantee fund. Additionally, as an upfront reimbursement for the initial year, Italy is obligated, within three months of the agreement coming into effect, to deposit 16.5 million euros into the special account of the state treasury established by Albania.
