The Police Oversight Agency (Known locally with the acronyms AMP) in Albania arrested the Chief of the Border Police in Korça, Stiljan Pasho, this Thursday on charges of drug trafficking.

The order for the arrest of the 53-year-old came from the First Instance Court in Korça after the Chief Commissioner "raised the alarm" in Kapshtica to cross towards Greece a vehicle inside which the Hellenic side found 26 kg of cannabis.

Pasho was seated in the front passenger seat when the director Lorenco Lika passed through customs in the vehicle where the gas cylinder containing the drugs was later found by Greek authorities in an apartment in Follorina.

The information about the chief commissioner had been administered by the AMP Korça sector, which, in collaboration with the Prosecutor's Office, had been monitoring him using special methods for several weeks.

"From the investigative actions carried out by the Police Oversight Agency, under the direction of the Prosecutor at the First Instance Court of the General Jurisdiction of Korça, it is proven that Chief Commissioner S. P., with concrete and direct actions, exploiting his position in the Regional Directorate of Border and Migration Police Korça, at various time intervals, and on November 27, 2023, favored citizen L.L. to cross the border in PKK Kashtica without undergoing border control in his vehicle, and ordered his escorts not to inspect the vehicle of this citizen. In connection with this criminal proceeding, close cooperation has also been established with Greek police counterparts through the Greece-Albania Police Cooperation Point, where as a result of this cooperation, the capture of 26 kg of narcotics in the Greek state has been made possible," announced the AMP.

Pasho accompanied Lorenco Lika to cross the "Passat" type vehicle from the Albanian side towards the Greek border, also crossing the border himself. Later, he exited the vehicle, turning back. This was not the only case when the Chief Commissioner had moved in the same vehicle with the arrested citizen, a fact proven by the TIMS system and security cameras.

From the statements of the employees at the Kapshtica border point, they admitted that they had been pressured by the Chief Commissioner not to inspect the vehicle. The information was conveyed to the Greek counterparts who seized the drugs and arrested the two young men in Follorina.

It is also suspected that in just one month, the 53-year-old had exploited the post at least 4 times to facilitate the passage of drug traffickers transporting narcotics to Greece.

The arrest of Pasho was announced by Interior Minister Taulant Balla himself, praising the work of the Police Oversight Agency in the self-cleansing process of the ranks in blue uniforms.
