Protests in Belgrade, December, 2923 |
Albanian Political Analysts Ridvan Berisha and Mersel Bilalli commented on the situation in Serbia, where thousands of people gathered in the center of Belgrade in an anti-government protest on Sunday, demanding the annulment of parliamentary and local elections, which international observers deemed unfair.
In a live connection to Albanian local media, Bilalli emphasized that the situation there will be dramatized.
"I think Serbia has had a good development for a long time in terms of the Western Balkans average; however, it seems that Vučić's mental code and his structure are focused on monism, excluding alternatives, political competition, so now it seems to be the breaking point. In foreign policy, Vučić seems to flirt with the West and sleeps with the East. We also saw this with the statement of the Serbian prime minister, who thanked the Russian secret services for providing information on the security situation. Serbia is in a situation close to the limit. We have a division of public opinion, pro-Eastern and Russian, and pro-Western. Vučić seems to have played on both sides, with the East and the West, and the West has thought that with a nuance, he is more connected. The situation will be dramatized because they have revealed a number of fictional voters," said Bilalli.
Berisha says, "Vučić can only be saved by the international community if it tolerates and turns a blind eye to the undemocratic situation, if he expresses willingness to be a leader who guarantees peace."
"Vučić can only be saved by the international community if it tolerates and turns a blind eye to the undemocratic situation, an autocrat like Vučić, if he expresses willingness to be a leader who guarantees peace, and the internationals still feel secure because of his closeness to Moscow and China," Berisha expressed.
On the other hand, Berisha added that the Serbian opposition has the same mentality as Vučić regarding Kosovo and that the protests are for domestic consumption.
"The Serbian opposition does not differ from Vučić's current mentality. They may do this for domestic issues, but regarding Kosovo, the opposition today is more aggressive than Vučić. From the motto they have had, 'Greater Serbia,' they have now moved on to the formulation 'Serbian world.' They have a hegemonic doctrine towards the countries in the region. I don't believe there is any mindset in Serbia to see the West as its sole address," said Berisha.
