Students of the Albanian school in Roveredo, Canton of Grabünden, Switzerland |
November, as usual, brings celebration and joy in Albanian families everywhere, whether in the homeland or in diaspora. And this November, in Albanian families in Roveredo in the canton of Graubünden, brought joy and celebration because the children of Albanian immigrants in this locality began learning in their mother tongue – in the Albanian language. It was an effort by the "Albanian School" in Switzerland, and especially the commitment of teachers Mimoza Qarreti Elshani and Egzona Imeri, who, together with parents, opened the doors to the newest school point in Switzerland.
Supplementary teaching of the Albanian language takes place at the elementary school in Roveredo (scuola elementare di Roveredo), every Saturday from 10:00-11:30, where teacher Egzona Imeri eagerly awaits the students, motivating them to learn and preserve the Albanian language. Besides the instructional hours aimed at acquiring the Albanian alphabet, during the instructional hours of this late November, she dedicated special attention to historical dates, especially the Alphabet Congress and "November 28th – Flag Day."
These instructional hours awakened a special patriotism in Albanian children, highlighting the importance of the letters of the Albanian language, Albanian scholars who devised the alphabet, leaders of the declaration of Albania's Independence, the national flag, and so on. Thus, there were several national symbols that instilled love and respect in the children – students of the Albanian school.
