The Macedonian police and prosecution announced on Sunday evening that they have found the lifeless body of Vanja Gjorčevska, a 14-year-old girl who disappeared a week ago in Skopje. This event, which has shocked public opinion in North Macedonia, involves five suspects, three of whom have been arrested by the police and have been sent to the Criminal Court. The court, along with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will release detailed information today.

The Skopje prosecution has also announced that the father of the murdered girl is being questioned in relation to this case, without providing details about his possible involvement in the event. The authorities have reported the discovery of another lifeless body in Veleshtë, believed to have been executed on the same day as the 14-year-old girl. The police and prosecution state that both cases are related or were carried out by the same perpetrators.

“After comprehensive measures and activities undertaken by police officers from the Internal Affairs Sector in Skopje, on December 3rd, the lifeless body of the minor V.G., who was reported missing on November 27th, 2023, was found in the vicinity of Skopje, while near Veleshtë, the lifeless body of P.Zh. (74 years old) from Velesi, who was reported missing on November 24th, 2023, was also found. Five people are suspected in connection with both cases, three of whom have been arrested, one is out of the country and another is being questioned", according to the statement from the Macedonian prosecution.

According to the police and prosecution, the motive for the murders is believed to be “material gain”. Previously, a burnt-out Citroen vehicle was found in connection with the criminal acts, and after forensic examination, material evidence was secured for the involvement of the arrested persons, which will be included in the corresponding criminal complaint in coordination with the Public Prosecutor.
