Artan Hoxha, a crime journalist, was invited to Euronews Albania this Saturday, where he discussed the killing of the well-known Iraqi mafioso, Mustafa Aljiburi, nicknamed "Benzema."
Hoxha revealed that the executor is a 19-year-old of Albanian origin raised in Sweden, identified as Xhuliano Prenga, hailing from Gjegjan of Puka.
The 19-year-old reportedly flew to Baghdad on January 7 and, on January 8, carried out the execution of "Benzema" with a hail of bullets within his car, where he was accompanied by an escort.
After the incident, the young Albanian managed to escape using the motorbike he had with him but was randomly captured by a police patrol. He was subsequently arrested and now faces the death penalty.
Benzema was one of the most prominent mafiosos in the Middle East and Sweden, controlling the cocaine trade.
"We have spread so much that it seems strange how such a small nation has such a vast geographical distribution. The recent event is a Hollywood-like scenario; to me, it seemed extraordinary. Firstly, how could a 19-year-old from a small town north of Stockholm start on a Sunday, on January 7, in Baghdad, and on Monday, on January 8, eliminate one of the world's most notorious crime figures, who was moving around with an escort? He went and shot him with 14 bullets within a space somewhere around 10 cm by 10 cm, like a target. Mustafa Aljiburi is one of the three leaders of the organization known as the 'Snakes of Kurdistan.' The person who was killed had Swedish citizenship and, to avoid extradition, took Turkish citizenship, then Iraqi citizenship, while he also had Iranian citizenship. The organization he led has 6,000 members, a highly violent organization. In addition to drug trafficking and clandestine activities in the Middle East, they took over the cocaine trade in Scandinavia. They hit all the other groups and took over distribution with a minority, as others have the majority, including Albanian organizations," said the journalist.
Hoxha emphasized that Xhuliano Prenga is at risk of being killed in Baghdad prison, and he is not being given proper legal proceedings because he holds a Swedish passport. The Swedish embassy in Iraq has been burned down due to developments related to the Quran.
"There is a problem now; he only has a Swedish passport, and the Swedish embassy in Iraq has been burned down due to developments related to the Quran. Secondly, Iraq has the death penalty, and he seriously risks the death penalty because he has no legal assistance. He does not have an Albanian passport because until the age of 8, he lived in Albania and did not obtain a passport. What his family is currently requesting, at a minimum, is a fair trial for him because there is fear they might eliminate him even in prison," said Hoxha.
