Muhamet Rrumbullaku, the General Director of the Albanian State Police, has been present at the Vlorë Police Directorate since yesterday morning, intensively leading the investigative efforts following the shocking sniper assassination of Gëzim Sinomati on the evening of January 7.
Sources indicate that Rrumbullaku has assembled a dedicated investigative team to probe and uncover the details surrounding this targeted attack. It is reported that the head of the State Police has conducted an extensive 24-hour analysis with the specialized team.
The same sources reveal that the investigative team has scrutinized old criminal case files both within and outside the country. The analysis also includes an examination of criminal groups, and collaboration with law enforcement agencies domestically and internationally is actively underway.
It is reported that a large number of surveillance footage has been gathered from the crime scene and the route taken by the perpetrators. Rrumbullaku has reportedly ordered the development of a detailed national operational plan aimed at preventing criminal activities and striking criminal groups.
There are suspicions that Gëzim Sinomati was targeted due to the criminal activities of his father, Sokol Sinomati, known by the alias "buzëdërri," who was a member of the "Gaxha" gang in the coastal city.
The young man was shot with a sniper rifle while on the balcony of his apartment, where he had gone to smoke a cigarette. The assailants used a stolen "BMW X3" with duplicated license plates. Gëzim Sinomati was shot from the rear seat of the car at a distance of 35-40 meters. Sources indicate that a modified concrete block, adapted to the rear seat for stability, was found burned in the back part of the vehicle used by the attackers.
The investigative team suspects the involvement of a professional sniper and a contract killer. The concrete block served to support the weapon without causing vibrations or errors. As of now, neither the weapon nor the motive for the assassination has been identified.
