Italian prosecutors in Cagliari have initiated investigations into Arben Gjata, the rector of the University of Medicine Tirana. Gjata is known for being one of the doctors who operated on Edi Rama during his recent appendicitis issue.

According to Italian media, the investigation against Gjata has commenced due to allegations that he conferred the "laurea ad honorem" title to the Governor of Sardinia, Christian Solinas.

Reports suggest that investigations have revealed that the title was granted to the Governor of Sardinia as an honor, as he was expected to intervene with the Italian Foreign Minister to secure funding for various projects at the University of Medicine in Tirana.

Meanwhile, Gjata himself has denied such allegations, expressing to Albanian media that these reports are fabrications by the Italian media.
