Kosovo's President, Vjosa Osmani, has declared the establishment of a special mission to the Vatican, marking a significant step in the country's diplomatic efforts.

"This is an important step for Kosovo and our relations with the Holy See, which we will continue to deepen," stated President Osmani through a Facebook post.

Officials in Kosovo have previously expressed their intention to seek recognition from the Vatican, making this move a strategic effort to strengthen diplomatic ties.

"The recognition of Kosovo by the Holy See impacts the further empowerment of our statehood and integration into Euro-Atlantic structures. Kosovo's aim for recognition by the Vatican contributes to the deepening and advancement of our centuries-old relations, as well as to the country's European path," Osmani had declared after a private audience with Pope Francis in January 2023.

According to the Law on Foreign Service, regarding special missions, it is stated that they are a "temporary mission, representing the Republic of Kosovo in another state or international organization, with their approval, to negotiate or perform specific tasks in the interest of the Republic of Kosovo."

Kosovo, recognized by over 100 states, has diplomatic missions in various countries worldwide, as it continues its efforts to expand international recognition. The opening of the special mission to the Vatican reflects Kosovo's commitment to strengthening diplomatic bonds and advancing its global standing.
