Dervish Hasi and in the background the Tirana Police Directorate |
In a disturbing revelation from Tirana, Dervish Hasi, a 42-year-old cardiothoracic surgeon employed at the "Shefqet Ndroqi" Sanatorium, has been arrested under grave accusations of abusing and exploiting a minor girl, now 16 years old, for the past two years. The arrest was made by Commissariat No. 1 in Tirana, which has been investigating the case.
Hasi, a known Muslim believer, allegedly presented the girl as his fourth wife while already having three other wives at home. This claim of polygamy served as a pretense for the exploitation, which was not reported earlier by the minor's family members 23. The girl reportedly visited Hasi's house frequently, staying for periods of 3 to 4 days, during which it is suspected that she was sexually abused.
The case came to light following a report that the minor was being used for prostitution. The police quickly gathered evidence, including wiretaps and communications, which confirmed the ongoing abuse. Among the evidence are intimate videos shared within a group chat that included Hasi and his other wives.

The Muslim Community of Albania (KMSH) has publicly distanced itself from Hasi, emphasizing that the misuse of religion for such nefarious purposes is not representative of their beliefs or practices. They have called for the media and public to be careful with their reporting on the matter, underlining that the actions of an individual should not be conflated with the faith community 1.
Hasi's arrest has also shed light on his previous encounters with the law. He was under investigation for ties to criminal groups and possibly supplying weapons to gangs within the country. His name surfaced during a testimony related to weapon trafficking, which included his son's involvement as well 24.
As the investigation continues, the minor has been taken into police care and returned to her parents' home. A comprehensive examination is expected to be conducted to support the allegations against Hasi 23.
This case has caused a stir not only because of the heinous nature of the crimes but also due to Hasi's prior public recognition. A year ago, Prime Minister Edi Rama and then Minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu had praised Hasi for his medical work, unaware of the allegations that would later emerge 4.
The legal ramifications for Hasi could be severe. If found guilty of sexual relations with a minor, he may face a prison sentence ranging from 7 to 15 years. The case has been transferred to the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction in Tirana for further action 5.
This incident highlights the potential for abuse of authority and the manipulation of faith for personal gain, challenging the Albanian community to reflect on the safeguards needed to protect the most vulnerable among them.
