The cybersecurity of 11 financial institutions in Albania will be among the central objectives of the Bank of Albania for the next two years.

In its 2024-2026 strategy, the Central Bank commits to completing the regulatory framework and adopting new standards in the direction of cybersecurity.

"To minimize the risk, there are three directions that need to be worked on: user awareness, increased security in user and bank staff access," stated Anila Hyka Somrgarv, an expert in banking systems.

According to the medium-term development strategy of the Bank of Albania, efforts will also be made to increase cooperation among second-tier banks to exchange information continuously, not only in the case of cyber attacks.

"These are positive steps that should have been taken earlier, which are also part of the negotiation process with the European Union."

On average, there were 500 attempts at cyber attacks from within and outside the country against the 11 commercial banks last year.
