Demands for Photovoltaic Panels Construction Increasing in Albania

The year 2024 kicked off with a deluge of applications flooding into the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy (MIE) concerning standalone photovoltaic plant projects aimed at selling to the open market without agreements with public companies.

The Ministry recently published the requirements for four other companies that have photovoltaic projects with various capacities, totaling 170.2 MW.

The first application comes from "LARTI" Ltd., expressing interest in building a photovoltaic plant with an installed capacity of 50.4 MW, for electricity production from renewable sources, located in Administrative Unit Mollas, Shtikë-Butkë village, Kolonjë Municipality, Korçë County.

The second application belongs to "SUNNY SIDE ENERGY" Ltd. for the construction of a photovoltaic plant with an installed capacity of 100 MW, located in Cadastral Zone 1451, Darëzezë village, Administrative Unit Dërmenas, Fier Municipality, Fier County.

The third project application is from "BOVA" Ltd., expressing interest in building a photovoltaic plant with an installed capacity of 11 MW, for electricity production from renewable sources, located in Cërrik Municipality, Elbasan County.

The fourth project is the application from "IDI 2005" Ltd. for a photovoltaic plant with an installed capacity of 8.8 MW, located in Cadastral Zone 3038, Administrative Unit Dërmenas, Fier Municipality, Fier County.

Just three weeks ago, six other applications were submitted to MIE for an installed capacity of 213 MW in photovoltaic plants.

Investments in renewable energy sources, especially solar, became attractive, particularly in 2022 when the energy crisis peaked, prompting various businesses to view energy as a form of diversification. While prices experienced a gradual decline in 2023, they remain above the historical average on exchanges for the period. It appears that investments in energy continue to be attractive for businesses.

As various forms of incentives for new energy sources, particularly solar, are currently being applied in the country, it remains unclear what the total capacity has reached. This is due to the fact that some projects have been completed and licensed, some are in the construction process, some are in procedural phases, and others are in the auction phase.

The Energy Regulatory Entity licensed 10 entities for energy production from photovoltaics with an installed capacity of 354 MW in 2023 alone.
