Erisa Ibrahimi, a pedagogue and design consultant for renowned Italian companies like Dior and Gucci, has not only been recognized as the best pedagogue at an Italian university but has also embarked on a unique initiative related to Albanian culture. Specifically, she focuses on preserving traditional Albanian folk clothing through digitalization.
In a Skype interview with a local media, she shared her journey, from her beginnings in Albania to her studies in Italy and her current work.
"I believe that Albania has always been far ahead in the artisanal part of clothing. The techniques have been very unique, even though Albanians haven't been widely recognized. Seeing how our clothes are made and looking at everything worldwide, it's always emphasized that we had the most advanced techniques. So, I think our traditions should have more voice.
I am very happy that when I show it to others, they accept it. Even when I have Albanian students, I eagerly teach them."
Erisa then talked about her wedding and the celebrations she organized in the Piazza San Marco in Venice, adorned in traditional Albanian attire.
"My husband is Albanian and very connected to our traditions. He used to be a DJ in Italian nightclubs, but since he met me, he's a DJ at Albanian celebrations. He was thrilled when I brought him into the middle of Venice in traditional clothing. It was something very special for everyone."
Erisa Ibrahimi's work not only spans the high-end fashion world but also contributes to the preservation and promotion of Albanian cultural heritage.
