The issue of Kosovo's defense guarantee resurfaced recently in Serbia, as German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius reiterated his country's commitment to supporting the Kosovo Security Force both militarily and in terms of armament.

Pistorius made this statement directly to Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, which stirred some controversy, prompting Vučić to assure that Belgrade would not surprise anyone with military movements. Another critique raised by Berlin was regarding Serbia's close relations with Russia, warning that this could hinder the path towards European Union membership.
Commenting on the influence of Russia in Serbia, Pistorius emphasized the need for Serbia to address this issue and take responsibility for its role in the region. He underscored the importance of clear communication and stressed that conflicts in the region do not pave the way for EU accession.
The German minister called on Serbia to recognize Kosovo and reduce its military presence along the border between the two countries. In response, Vučić expressed frustration, highlighting the differing positions between Belgrade and Berlin on this matter.
Vučić reiterated his usual rhetoric, accusing Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti of attempting ethnic cleansing with the decision regarding the dinar. He also addressed the issue of relations with Russia, stating that Serbia respects international law and sovereignty, despite Berlin's concerns.
On another note, the German Defense Minister emphasized in Serbia that the investigation into the attack in Banjskë is crucial for determining future actions.
The exchange between Germany and Serbia underscores the complex geopolitical dynamics in the Balkans and highlights the ongoing challenges in the region's path towards stability and integration into European structures.
