Former Foreign Minister of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj, has expressed that French President Emmanuel Macron does not support the enlargement of the EU in the Western Balkans.

Hoxhaj made these comments in an interview for Euronews Albania, stating that Macron, in order to say 'no' to enlargement, invented the European Political Committee.
He also said that if the West wanted to stop Serbia's hegemonic policy, it could admit Kosovo to NATO.
"I expected that Russian aggression would increase a new political awareness in Europe regarding the Balkans, but last year's European Council meeting, where no significant decision was made regarding enlargement policy, or the French president's attempt to invent the European political community, which is another way of saying no to enlargement in the Western Balkans.
The EU does not use enlargement as an instrument and the West does not have instruments to exert pressure on Serbia. But if the EU's door were open, then the West's influence would be completely different.
We are in a situation of status quo within the EU but also in the Balkans, so this approach of Rama with the Summit is a policy to break this status quo. Kosovo's membership in NATO would be a disruption to Serbia's hegemonic tendencies towards Kosovo," said Hoxhaj.
