Varheleyi stated that Albania is expected to open the first group of chapters in the negotiations soon. He added that Albania's progress is commendable and advised the Greek state that in order to build a good relationship with its neighbor, it should not impede its progress.

"I believe your actions have shown what you have achieved. Do not forget where you were in 2019 and where you are now. I do not think there are people in Brussels who do not agree with these achievements. We have agreed that Albania should open negotiations for the first group of chapters.

Good relations with neighbors cannot be built if you block them from moving forward. However, we are trying to help, and in the coming months, we will have the intergovernmental conference to move on to actual negotiations. Because we want to open negotiations for the first group of chapters, which are 'Fundamental Rights' and 'Rule of Law,' and discuss these rights there once negotiations are opened," Varhelyi said.

Commissioner Varhelyi's remarks come at a crucial time as concerns linger over the potential hurdles Albania may face in its EU integration process due to regional dynamics. The issue of a possible Greek blockade has been a topic of discussion, particularly given the historical and geopolitical complexities in the region.

The reassurance provided by Varhelyi underscores the European Union's commitment to Albania's accession process and the importance of regional cooperation in fostering stability and progress. It also highlights the significance of addressing concerns diplomatically and finding constructive solutions to any potential challenges that may arise.

Prime Minister Rama echoed Varhelyi's sentiments, emphasizing the importance of maintaining open communication and dialogue with neighboring countries to address any misunderstandings or disagreements effectively. He reiterated Albania's dedication to fulfilling the necessary requirements for EU membership and expressed confidence in the country's ability to overcome any obstacles along the way.

As Albania continues on its path towards European integration, cooperation, and collaboration both within the region and with EU institutions will be paramount. Varhelyi's words serve as a reminder of the shared goals and aspirations driving the enlargement process, despite the occasional hurdles that may emerge. Through continued dialogue, commitment, and mutual respect, Albania remains steadfast in its pursuit of European integration and the opportunities it promises for the country and its people.
