Flutura Kusari, a distinguished Albanian figure, honored by Germany with the Order of Merit

 Flutura Kusari, a prominent jurist in the field of media, has been honored with the Order of Merit by Germany. This prestigious award, bestowed upon her by the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, was presented to Kusari by the German ambassador to Pristina, Jorn Rohde, on March 18th.

Notably, Kusari becomes the first citizen of Kosovo to receive the Order of Merit from the German state.

Ambassador Rohde stated that the award was granted to Kusari in recognition of her dedication to free media and democracy in Kosovo and beyond.

According to Germany, Kusari's work positions her as one of the leading figures in civil society in Kosovo.

"Throughout her career, she has advocated for freedom of expression and media as essential prerequisites for democratic development in the region and integration into the European Union," stated the German Embassy in a press release.

"Her tireless advocacy includes defending media freedom against political interference, protecting journalists from verbal and physical attacks, and addressing Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPP). Kusari's constructive criticisms and proactive approach have earned her a reputation as a driving force for accountability within the government."


Germany emphasizes that through her work, Kusari consistently raises political and public awareness regarding media-related issues.

Flutura Kusari's recognition with the Order of Merit underscores the importance of her efforts in safeguarding media freedom and democratic values in Kosovo.
