The latest statements have come from the leader of the Greek Democratic Party and former Foreign Minister of Greece, Andreas Loverdos.

Loverdos recently had a meeting in Fier prison with the elected mayor of Himara municipality, Fredi Beleri, who has been sentenced to two years in prison by SPAK.

"I visited Mr. Beleri. As a legal professional, a lawyer, and a politician, I want to emphasize that in Albania, laws do not exist. Regarding the case of Fredi Beleri, I want to say that under these negative institutional conditions, Albania has no chance of joining the European Union," he said in a statement to the media.

The Beleri case has been a point of contention between Albania and Greece, with Greek politicians raising concerns about the rule of law and judicial independence in Albania. The case has sparked diplomatic tensions and threatens to impact Albania's aspirations for EU membership.

Albanian authorities have defended the judicial process and stressed their commitment to upholding the rule of law. However, the continued scrutiny from Greek officials underscores the challenges Albania faces in its EU accession process and the need for comprehensive judicial reforms.
