Rivitalizing Shkodra Lake: 3,000 'Blin' Fish to be Released Soon

Illegal fishing and other factors have led to pollution of the lake, causing the disappearance of some fish species in Lake Shkodra today. One of them is the Blin, a fish that in Europe was only found in the largest lake in the Balkans, RTSH reports.

Arjan Çinari, the head of the Fisheries Management Organization, says he is working in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture to release about 3,000 specimens into Lake Shkodra.

In the early '90s, the area where the Blin lived began to deteriorate more and more until, ten years ago, it was determined that no specimens of such fish remained in Lake Shkodra. This destruction of the ecosystem has resulted from indiscriminate hunting, the use of dynamite, and especially the use of dragnets.
