"Leonardos Beleri, Fredi Beleri's brother, is representing him at the voting announcement center in Athens, as Beleri is currently in pre-trial detention," Greek media reports.

Other candidates include current Members of the European Parliament from New Democracy, Greek journalists Giorgos Aftias and Eleonora Meleti, and former weightlifter Pirro Dhima.

In his message, transmitted through his brother, Fredi Beleri states: "Today, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis offered me the opportunity to seek the Greek people's vote in the June 2024 European elections. I thank him for this, but above all, I thank him for the unwavering support he has given me throughout these months while I was in prison. The battle I am fighting is not personal. It is a battle for the rule of law and democracy, the rules of which must be respected by all. It is a battle for the values that the West and Europe represent and which must be respected by those who want to join the larger European family. It is a battle for the most oppressed and unjust part of Hellenism, the Greek minority in Albania. My brothers, who after decades of oppression, want and have the right to live freely and peacefully, without fear, in a country that respects their rights, honor, and property. I call on every Greek to support the vote of New Democracy, to support Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis who is decisively and methodically building a strong and proud Greece," as reported by Greek media.
