Varoufakis himself made the announcement on social media, expressing that the German Foreign Ministry issued a ban on his entry and that of two other academics, following a police intervention at the Palestine conference.

"This implies not only a ban on entry into Germany but also on participation and online activity in political events in the country, with the German government exceeding all boundaries of authoritarianism," Varoufakis stated.

The other two individuals barred from entry are academic Salman Abu Sitta and the rector of the University of Glasgow, Ghassan Abu Sittah, who was even subjected to a three-hour interrogation at Berlin Airport.
