Italian Police Lead International Drug Bust, Apprehending Albanian Crime Syndicate Members

 In a monumental anti-drug operation spearheaded by the Central Operational Service and the Air Squad of Bologna, under the coordination of the Bologna Anti-Mafia Directorate, a significant Albanian criminal group specializing in the importation of large quantities of cocaine from Germany has been dismantled. The operation, codenamed "Sammogia," resulted in the arrest of three individuals in Vlorë: Landi Kalemaj, Floriant Muho, and Ledjon Muho, as local media reports.

Following extensive investigations conducted in collaboration with the International Police Cooperation Service and the Expert Security Office in Tirana of the Central Directorate of Criminal Police, as well as the Criminal Police Department within Interpol National Central Bureau, it was uncovered that Albanian couriers, acting on behalf of the organization, were distributing several kilograms of cocaine weekly throughout the national territory to numerous buyers, including fellow compatriots. Additionally, the Albanian organization was found to have access to substantial quantities of marijuana.

The monitoring of numerous trips made by Albanian couriers from Germany to Italy led to several arrests, coordinated by the Central Directorate of Criminal Police and the Central Directorate for Drug Enforcement Services, with assistance from respective police forces in Albania and Germany. A total of thirteen restrictive measures were implemented, resulting in the investigation of twenty-two individuals. Over the course of the investigations, law enforcement seized a total of 26.5 kg of cocaine and 11 kg of marijuana, and five individuals were arrested in flagrante delicto. A press conference will be held at 10:30 AM at the Bologna Police Headquarters.


The successful conclusion of the operation, codenamed "Sammogia," was initiated by the Italian State Police and conducted simultaneously in Albania, Italy, and Germany. This achievement is a testament to the outstanding cooperation between the Criminal Police Department/Special Operational Force Directorate within the State Police, the Directorate for Organized Crime Investigation, and the Italian Interforce Office in Albania.

Members of a criminal organization involved in drug trafficking in Italy were located in Vlorë, resulting in the apprehension of three individuals. During the international operation "Sammogia," a total of thirteen individuals were arrested across Albania, Italy, and Germany. This outcome reflects the exceptional partnership between the Italian State Police and law enforcement agencies, characterized by intensive information exchange and consecutive joint operations aimed at apprehending internationally wanted individuals. The Criminal Police Department/Special Operational Force Directorate within the State Police, in collaboration with the Directorate for Organized Crime Investigation and the Italian Interforce Office in Albania, successfully concluded the international operation codenamed "Sammogia."

The individuals apprehended during the operation in Albania, Italy, and Germany—L. K., 52 years old; F. M., 38 years old; and L. M., 33 years old—were located in Vlorë, captured, and arrested. The Bologna Court has ordered the security measure of "Imprisonment" for all three individuals, for the criminal offense of "Drug Trafficking" committed within the criminal organization. Interpol Tirana and counterparts in Italy continue their cooperation efforts to extradite these individuals to Italy.
