Renowned Albanian Poet Agim Doçi Passes Away

 This morning at 06:00, the renowned Albanian poet and songwriter, Agim Doçi, passed away at the age of 76. He had been admitted to the Neurovascular Service at the University Hospital Center of Tirana (QSUT) two days ago in critical condition after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage.

 
Hospital sources confirmed that Doçi passed away early this morning. His funeral ceremony will be held tomorrow in Tirana, with memorial services scheduled to take place at 11:00.

Agim Doçi was born on May 9, 1948. He was a highly respected poet and songwriter in Albania. Doçi completed his high school education in Shkodër and went on to pursue higher studies at the State University of Tirana, where he graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

He worked as an engineer in Industrial Installations, contributing to many significant projects such as cement factories, the Metallurgical Plant, the Laç Superphosphate Plant, and the Tirana Printing House. In the late 1980s, he served as the Chief Energy Engineer at the “Misto Mame” Wood Combine. In 1989, he was sentenced to work three shifts at the paperboard factory. He became involved in the December 1990 movements for democracy.

Agim Doçi was the author of many Albanian song lyrics, winning over 50 awards, including twice representing Albania with his lyrics in the Eurovision Song Contest. He is particularly known for his collaboration with composer Edmond Zhulali in many Albanian song festivals and for writing over 100 songs about the Kosovo war. Some of his most famous songs include "Marrshi i UCK-së" (The UCK March) and "A vritet pafajsia" (Is Innocence Killed?).

Agim Doçi's passing marks the end of a significant era in Albanian literature and music. His contributions to the arts will be remembered and cherished by many.
