The conflict erupted in sector number 4 of the notorious Greek prison, where dozens of Albanian prisoners serve their sentences. According to Greek media outlet Protothema, Doci was fatally stabbed by Altin Vokri, a 46-year-old Kosovar Albanian who himself sustained injuries during the physical altercation. Reports indicate that Vokri's injuries are not life-threatening.

The deceased inmate, aged 35, was serving a sentence at Korydallos for two counts of murder. He had committed the first murder of a businessman in Western Athens during a robbery in 2017, followed shortly by the killing of an elderly individual under similar circumstances.

In 2018, during a transfer to Crete, Doci managed to escape from a ferry and was apprehended two days later in a house in Nea Filadelfia.

Meanwhile, Altin Vokri is known to have been convicted for involvement in a drug trafficking criminal organization.

Greek prison authorities have already initiated an investigation into how the knife used by the 46-year-old was obtained during the deadly altercation, as well as the circumstances leading to Alfons Doci's death. Initial reports suggest that the inmates were debating whether or not to enter their cell due to the heat, which escalated into the violent clash.

The incident highlights ongoing challenges within Greek prisons, particularly concerning the management and security of inmates from various backgrounds and criminal histories. As authorities continue their investigation, questions remain about the effectiveness of prison protocols in preventing such tragic outcomes.
