Former Albanian Footballer Faces 9 Years Imprisonment and 12 Years Expulsion from Switzerland

A 37-year-old Albanian man has been sentenced to 9 years in prison and 12 years of expulsion from Switzerland after being found guilty of cocaine trafficking. According to reports from foreign media, the man, who is said to have been a former footballer, is also accused of money laundering and illegal entry and stay in the country, local media report.

Prosecutors stated that over a six-month period between 2020 and 2021, the 37-year-old received 82 kilograms of cocaine mixture in Reiden (LU), divided it, and sold it to other drug dealers.

During his arrest, the police found over 100,000 Swiss francs in cash and 2.4 kilograms of cocaine, as well as 49 grams of heroin. However, the court acquitted him of the charge of trafficking the latter substance.

The defense sought a lighter sentence of 6.5 years. The lawyer justified this request by emphasizing that his client had fully confessed.

The defendant had accumulated debts due to sports betting in Albania. The owner of the betting center later offered him a job distributing drugs in Switzerland.

In six months, he had a turnover of 3.5 million francs, earning a salary of 3,000 francs per month.
