Albanian Government Approves Draft Law on Organic Products, Denaj: Regulates Certification and Control at Every Stage of Production

 The Council of Ministers has approved the draft law on Albanian organic products today. The announcement was made by the Minister of Agriculture, Anila Denaj, who explained that this draft law establishes rules for organic products, which aim to be introduced to the Albanian market in accordance with EU standards.

According to her, the draft law will regulate principles for the certification of organic operators, the use of labels and advertising, as well as official control rules at every stage of production.

"We have approved the draft law that organizes clear rules for organic products produced in Albania, which will be prepared and aim to be introduced to the Albanian market according to EU standards. This draft law regulates principles for the certification of organic operators, the use of ethical indicators and advertising, official control rules at every stage of production, storage, distribution, and import-export. Besides the authority responsible for control, the law ensures the approval of a list of products for plant protection and fertilizers in organic agriculture and the publication of this list in accordance with transparency standards. The law also envisages the establishment of an electronic system to be managed by the ministry."

The minister stated that the draft law is expected to be implemented starting next year and aims to be approved by parliament within this year.

"The draft law is part of the acts planned for this year and aligns with the EU regulation dated May 30, 2018. The regulation came into force in 2022, but the approval of this law will begin implementation from next year, and we aim to have it approved in parliament within this year."

The minister also announced the approval of a draft decision that enables 25 million euros in financing for the blue economy, to invest in the infrastructure for trading seafood products, such as markets.

"The government approved a draft decision related to the blue economy. We have been in the process for some time to enable financing of nearly 25 million euros to develop infrastructure that will enable the growth of onshore fishing, in relation to artisanal trading institutions and markets, not only in Vlora but also in other cities where the economy and life are closely connected to the blue economy."
