A tragic incident occurred tonight in the Treshi area of Tirana, where an American citizen, Mathew James Werts, strangled his wife and their two dogs with a rope before taking his own life.
Werts, who was a teacher at "Albania College," lived in a private house in this area.
According to reports, the teacher did not show up for work today, raising concerns among his colleagues and the school administration.
The school's principal went to Werts' house to check on him and discovered the tragic scene.
Authorities are now working to uncover the motives behind this extreme act, while his colleagues have given statements to the police regarding what they know.
The incident took place on Vangjel Noti Street in Laprakë.
Initially, the lifeless body of the American was found, as he had hanged himself. Later, while searching for additional evidence, the bodies of his wife, who was originally from Indonesia but held an American passport, were discovered.
The 53-year-old American, after strangling his wife, covered her body with clothes and placed the two dead dogs on top of her.
It is suspected that the incident occurred under conditions of depression, but this is only a preliminary theory and is being investigated by the police.
