Three Chinese nationals were arrested at Tirana International Airport "Mother Teresa" by Albanian authorities, on suspicion of being involved in organizing illegal gambling and prostitution activities.
The individuals were apprehended at the airport entrance while attempting to smuggle 12 mobile phones, 3 laptops, 6 computers, and other electronic devices into Albania, which were reportedly used for these illicit operations.
During the inspection of the electronic devices, the police discovered and documented several websites related to illegal gambling and prostitution activities.
Investigations are ongoing to fully uncover the criminal activities of these individuals.
The procedural materials have been forwarded to the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana for further action on charges related to "Smuggling of other goods," "Prostitution," and "Organizing illegal gambling."
The Albanian State Police issued a statement about the case, explaining that the operation, codenamed "Electronics," was carried out by the Rinas Police Station in collaboration with the Directorate for the Investigation of Economic and Financial Crimes, and the Directorate for Cybercrime Investigations within the Criminal Police Department. The operation was initiated based on intelligence gathered by police forces.
As a result of this operation, three Chinese nationals were arrested:
- X., 19 years old
- C. L., 43 years old
- Sh. J., 49 years old
Upon inspection of their luggage at the airport, the police discovered the aforementioned electronic devices, which they were attempting to smuggle into Albania. Further examination of these devices revealed websites and programs used for organizing illegal gambling and prostitution.
The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to document the full extent of the criminal activities. The Prosecutor’s Office of Tirana has taken over the case for the next legal steps.
