The Albanian State Police have issued a public warning urging all citizens to refrain from sharing their banking information in games advertised on social media platforms, which claim to offer cash prizes.
In a media statement, the police, commonly known as the "blue uniforms," have advised people to be cautious, particularly with an application called “Plinko.” According to the authorities, any promises of earning money through this game are entirely false.
The police emphasized that to make this scam more believable, videos of famous people playing the game are being circulated, but these videos are fabricated. The underlying goal of the scam is to trick users into giving away their personal and banking information, which could then be misused.
"The game providers ask for bank account details. This is a scheme designed to steal banking information, which could result in unauthorized withdrawals from your account," the police noted in their warning.
Given the increasing number of cases involving the use of this app, particularly by students seeking to earn money, the Albanian State Police have issued an appeal to parents. They are urged to be vigilant and prevent their children from using this app. In cases where children have already engaged with the app, parents are advised to be extra cautious, as sharing personal and bank account details could lead to financial losses.
In their announcement, the police reiterated the importance of protecting sensitive information and staying alert to scams disguised as opportunities to win money online.
