First Albanian Audiobook Library Launched in Montenegro

For the first time, the Albanian community in Montenegro now has access to an audiobook library in the Albanian language. This initiative aims to promote reading and education, particularly for those with visual impairments. The project’s broader goal is to preserve and promote the Albanian language and culture, encouraging both young people and adults to engage more deeply with literature.

The project, led by author Luljeta Avdiu Cura, initially focuses on works by Albanian authors from Montenegro, with plans to expand to other regional writers. Cura emphasized the importance of this initiative, titled "Audio Vepra Shqip" (Audio Works in Albanian), for the Albanian community in Montenegro. “The project will publish audiobooks by Albanian creators from Montenegro and authors from across the region. The aim is to educate young people in the country, as well as to serve those raising and educating children in the diaspora,” Cura explained.

Cura also highlighted that the project is designed to preserve and promote the Albanian language and culture. It seeks to inspire more people, especially the younger generation, to immerse themselves in the world of literature.

“Young people today have lost the desire to read traditional books, and with their constant access to various technological devices, this audiobook library provides an opportunity to spark curiosity and encourage them to listen to works in this format,” said Cura.

She envisions the project growing continuously, with support from relevant institutions to sustain this form of education. "This is a project with no end, and I hope it will continue to receive support from Montenegro's Minority Fund and other institutions that value the written word," she added.

Cura believes that the value of reading in personal and educational development is immense, and audiobooks offer a new way to acquire knowledge. They are especially useful for those with visual impairments, but also for anyone who prefers to listen to content while engaging in other activities.
